When riding a pony or horse you must wear a helmet that fits you and is not damaged
What you need to do
  1. Dress safely for riding and know why you must wear a hard hat and suitable footwear
  2. Show how to
    • approach a pony or horse correctly, using aids if necessary
    • catch a pony or horse and put on a headcollar/halter
    • lead a pony or horse in hand
    • Mount and dismount correctly
    • Ride a quiet pony or horse in an enclosed area without a leading rein
    • Halt, walk, turn and trot safely
  3. With an adult you know, ride along and across a road
  4. Know the basic needs of a grass-kept pony or horse in summer and winter, such as feeding, watering and grooming
    • Identify the simple points of a pony or horse
    • Identify some parts of a saddle and bridle
