What you need to do
  1. Either
    • Safely enter the water from the edge of the pool
    • By bending your knees, submerge yourself in shallow water ten times, breathing out each time
    • Briefly sit on the bottom of the pool
    • Push off from the side of the pool, showing a back glide then regain a standing position
    • Swim front paddle or front crawl for ten metres
    • Swim on your back for ten metres
    • Swim another stroke for ten metres
    Or
    Hold either the STA Pool Frog 2 Award or Goldfish 1 or Water Skills Grade 2
    • Know why you should not run on the poolside
    • Know what you should do before getting into the pool
    • Be able to tell which is the shallow end and which is the deep end of a pool
    • Know who to tell if you feel unwell, or if there is an accident in or near the pool




For the Swimmer advanced you don't have to have the Swimmer badge before working for this badge
What you need to do
  1. Either
    • Jump into deep water and tread water for 20 seconds
    • Scull in a sitting-tuck position for 20 seconds. Stretch out to float on your back and then tuck in again before regaining a standing position
    • With your body in a vertical position and your feet together, scull with your hands. Keep your mouth clear of the water for five seconds
    • Float on your back for two minutes with your feet together. Scull with your hands to stay afloat
    • With a float, swim front crawl(legs only) for 15 metres
    • With your hands behind your head, swim back crawl(legs only) for 15 metres
    • Using a float, swim breast stroke(legs only) for 15 metres
    • Swim either breast stroke, front crawl or back crawl for 15 metres
    Or
    Hold either the STA Pool Frog 3 Award or Goldfish 3 or ASA Water Skills Grade 3.
  2. Confidently swim 50 metres in any stroke without stopping
  3. Discuss with the tester the reasons for the hygiene and safety rules at your regular pool
